Cut’em Loose

The Word of God is a very practical book of life and wisdom. Among many, many, many other vital pieces of spiritual wisdom, it tells us what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. One of the major reasons for errors is that we either haven’t heard the truth, refused it, or didn’t understand it. All three of those can be remedied. When we’re on the wrong path, we can immediately change lanes and get on the right one through the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, if you want to remain in the lane you’re in, and you’re supposed to change, then what I’m about to state may be a problem for you. The magnification of destiny demands change. It makes it clear that if you want to learn more about the person God called you to be, and if you want to know the real you and activate every drop of Holy Spirit power that has been appointed to your destiny, then it is imperative that you understand you’re in a season of divine transition.

God is not staying still. He’s moving, and He’s also moving people left and right. Many of them are being elevated not just in their personal lives, but most importantly within their spiritual lives. People’s eyes are open like never before, and they understand that there’s a call upon them to go much higher than what they’ve imagined. They are learning to maneuver in the Spirit, and that’s a movement that defies everything we thought we knew about what God is willing to do for His people. Those who feel this unction are advancing in Heavenly Father’s purposes, and the word ‘stuck’ no longer applies to them.

When I’m in the company of some of these individuals, if it were not for the joy of seeing what God is doing in their lives, I’d be almost jealous. Everything for them isn’t perfect, but they possess a determination and exuberance that is palpable. It has substance. Like all of God’s goodies, there’s a weight to the agape love that is being expressed through His people, and all of us should be chopping at the bits to get in on it. As children of God, we ought to be hungry for everything He’s made available to receive, but some of us are too distracted to realize that we’re allowing ourselves to miss out. Make no mistake, one of the major reasons for this is there’s some people in our lives that are keeping us stuck and blocking our blessings. This cannot be denied.

It’s pure fiction to think that we can get all that is slated to come our way and still hold on to some of the relationships and soul ties that are currently weighing us down. That’s a myth that will keep us moving at a snail’s pace. The process of preparation is going to require some aspect of change. Whether it’s an attitude adjustment, increase in vision, altered mindset, and/or greater sense of self; something about the way we are seeing, thinking, and being has to shift to make room for the blessing. And someone in our sphere is causing us to remain comfortable at a level that is below the mark.

Hebrews 5:11-14 The Message (MSG) tells us, “11-14 I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you’ve picked up this bad habit of not listening. By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one—baby’s milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God’s ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong.” In a season of transition, discernment is key. Not only is your assignment transitioning, but your ability to perceive the directive and leadership of the Holy Spirit should increase as well.

Some of the people with whom many of us associate don’t have a clue about the intimacy required in a relationship with God. They neither care or understand where we’re headed in Christ. Our walk is as foreign to them as walking in space, yet, we feed them our time and energy, and we eat from theirs as well. No, everyone in our lives is not required to be at our level of spiritual maturity, but some of these associations are impeding our ability to run with patience and endurance the race that God has set before us. To the extent that they are, we’ve got to cut them off.

You may be completely blind to the detriment they are causing, but if you’re not getting closer to the life you desire, if you’re not witnessing movement in your circumstances, it could be that the Spirit is leading you to break some ties that you are refusing to acknowledge as dead weight. No shade whatsoever towards the person. It’s just that the purpose for which that relationship was needed has passed. Your life needs to change, and you need to let it. Cut’em loose. Pray for them. Send thoughts of wellness and blessings their way, but cut’em loose.■
