Being A Proverbs 18:22 Treasure

Dear Heavenly Father,

During a conversation with a friend, she told me that she’s tired of being single. It’s not the first time I’ve heard her say this. Despite her young age, she said that she’s ready to find her husband. This time during our conversation, I interrupted her. Your Word in Proverbs 18:22 (NLT) flashed across my mind like a marquee, and I felt compelled to speak power and truth to the statement she had made. In this verse of scripture, You tell us, “The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord.” You tell us that You’ve given the man the special privilege and honor of finding a wife, and if we want things to turn out according to Your plan, we need to trust that Your way is the best way to go.

In this age of women empowerment, many women feel the need to be assertive, to take matters into their own hands when it comes to dating and partnering. While it is true that we should be backing our faith with action, we must be careful not to attempt to back it with disobedience; those are actions spun from fear, desperation, and arrogance. You’ve given women the special gift of giving birth. You’ve placed it within our physical makeup to expand the human race and thereby expand Your family. Although the seed can only come from the man, the woman has the burden and joy of carrying the child for nine months and going through the labor pains of birth. You have ordained that this is a woman’s labor, and finding a wife is a man’s labor. To deny Your order is to deny Your purpose, and that would indeed be catastrophic.

As Your Kingdom daughters, You have given us the responsibility of making sure we’re prepared to be the treasure You’ve promised in Proverbs 18:22. You want us to be obedient in tithing, prayer, and loving the way You’ve commanded. You have called upon us to demonstrate a habit pattern of planting good seeds, so that when our future spouses find us, they also find a harvest. Our obedience to You forges a path that allows a good wife to be found. Please help us to be obedient to Your Word, Heavenly Father. Help us to be patient and continue to have faith that in Your perfect timing, we will cross paths with the man You have ordained to be our husbands.

Father God, please help us to grow into the wives You’ve purposed us to be. Thank You for the blessing of a good, Godly, and loving husband. Please help prepare them to receive us, just as You are helping us to prepare to receive them. Thank You for causing all things to work together for our good as we trust and believe in Your Word. Thank You for our Blessed Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
