God’s Word tells us in Hebrew 11:6 that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It’s the title deed that we have the thing we’ve prayed to receive before that thing arrives. Over the last hundred years, God’s people have received more revelation about the dynamic of walking in faith than perhaps any other time in human history. We’ve been taught how to believe to receive, and while this is an extraordinary blessing, it has caused some of us to attempt to minimize faith. We try to separate it into two categories, faith in the finished work of Christ and faith for other things. Ephesians 4:5(NLT) tells us, “There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” To honor this truth, some of us may need to change the way we think.
In John 10:10, Jesus Christ declares that God sent him to the earth to make a more than abundant life available to us all. 3John 1:2 tells us that God wants us to be healthy in body, strong in spirit, and have a prospering soul—a soul that is filled with His love. In Deuteronomy 8:18, God made it clear to all of us that He is the One who gives the power to obtain wealth and success. There can be no doubt in the scriptures that God wants us to prosper in every aspect of life, and our faith is what allows us to draw down these blessings from heaven so that they materialize in our lives.
Our Heavenly Father isn’t in heaven creating the blessings we’ve prayed to receive. Genesis 2:2(NLT) tells us, “On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work.” God is perfect. He never has to do a do-over, take-back, or back-track. He does everything perfect from the beginning, and so it is with the earth and everything that any human being will ever need. God rested from His finished work of creation because it was finished. It was complete. Nothing needed to be added or subtracted. So, our Heavenly Father has already provided every single thing that any of us can ever need through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:15-18(NLT) informs us of our incomparable Master, Redeemer, and Lord. It says, “15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see–such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. 18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.”
Christ is the chief cornerstone. He’s the foundation of all that exists. Faith in him and faith in the reality of the example he has left for us to follow is the key that opens the door to God’s love and light. Every blessing is contained within Christ and unveiled as we walk in him. Some of us have been praying to God for the same desires for a very long time. We say that we have faith that He’ll bless us one day, but the reality is that He already has. We simply haven’t yet walked in the victory Christ has won for us. We don’t believe that he has given us victory over sin, because we keep on sinning. We don’t believe that by his stripes we are healed, because we continually confess that we are sick and defeated. We don’t believe that God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Christ because we’re still treating people poorly and behaving as if God didn’t pour His love into our hearts by His Holy Spirit.
There’s only one faith, and it is faith in God through Jesus Christ. That faith is activated, and blessings abound, as we answer his call to be ambassadors and follow his example. We have got to get on board with the victory Jesus Christ won for us and begin to believe rightly so that we’re walking in his victory every day of our lives. This is God’s Will for us! Our confessions must line up with who God says we are, what God says we can do, and what He says we can have. We must live this out through our actions and allegiance to embody God’s love through the example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
1John 5:4(NLT) tells us, “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.” This verse isn’t telling us to have faith to get more stuff. God is our sufficiency. He will provide everything we need, so we shouldn’t occupy all our time pinning away for blessings He’s already provided. Faith is the right way of believing, and our mission and goal must be to achieve victory by having faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When we truly believe in who we are through him, our lives will be transformed, our minds and hearts will overflow with his love and power, and our faith in Christ will produce wonderful results!■
