God’s Heart Concerning You

Exodus 14:14 (NLT)
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Being single can be a very lonely journey—a path that many of us didn’t expect to walk for so long, at least not year after year. It’s true that there are some individuals who are genuinely loving the single life. They find peace in only having themselves to care for and don’t want the added responsibility of caring for another’s heart. But on the other side, there are those who have been single longer than they’d like. They are not as happy as they know they can be, and they’re praying that Heavenly Father will soon bring their prayers for marriage to fruition. But while praying for marriage, are they also asking God for the wisdom that prepares and positions them for what they desire most? We can be confident that the right knowledge—the revelation from God’s Word—is always the bridge between where we are and where He’s calling us to be.

It’s important to understand that preparation is just as important as petition. It’s not wise to become so focused on the promise that we overlook the process. Our Heavenly Father is generous beyond our comprehension, and not only does He want to give us what we ask for—He wants to prepare us to sustain it. A marriage that is birthed in prayer but lacking spiritual maturity, emotional healing, or godly understanding can quickly become a burden rather than a blessing. Psalm 37:23 (NLT) tells us, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly; He delights in every detail of their lives.” This means that even in our waiting, He’s working. So while we pray for marriage, the better question might be: Lord, what are You trying to develop in me before You deliver what I’m asking for? Because when our character is aligned with our calling, and our heart is shaped to love the way Christ loves, we won’t just be ready for marriage—we’ll be ready to honor Him in it.

Being ready for love isn’t just about wanting somebody—it’s about being real with yourself and with God. Where’s your heart at for real? Are you learning how to be grateful right where you are? Are you becoming more patient, more emotionally steady? That kind of growth matters when it comes to building something that lasts. A lot of times, God uses our single season to grow us in these areas. 1 Thessalonians 5:14–18 (NLT), His Word lays it out plain: “Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” This is the kind of spiritual posture that prepares us—not just for marriage, but for a life that honors God no matter the season. And when your heart starts living that out, you’re not just ready for a relationship—you’re ready for whatever God has next.

Here’s the truth—healing is part of God’s preparation plan. You can’t skip over it and expect to carry something whole when you’re still carrying pieces of pain, disappointment, or shame. But here’s what you need to know: God’s heart concerning you is about love, protection, and purpose. You must believe this in the depths of your heart. Psalm 84:11 (NLT) tells us, “For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.” His heart isn’t about delaying, withholding, or punishing us. He sees the things you don’t say out loud. He knows the wounds that shaped you, the walls you’ve built, and the questions you’re afraid to ask. And still, He’s patient. Still, He’s working. Healing is how He gets your heart in a place where it’s no longer just longing—but ready to receive. Because the love He’s preparing for you is not meant to patch you up—it’s meant to partner with the healing He’s already started.

So don’t mistake this season as God withholding something from you. This is Him investing in you. His heart is to bless you, not break you. And when the timing is right, and your heart is aligned with His Will, what He brings into your life won’t confuse you—it’ll confirm what He’s been whispering all along: “You’re worth the wait.” So keep growing. Keep healing. Keep trusting. Because God’s heart concerning you is good. ■
