Abiding in the True Vine
Dear Heavenly Father,
Your Son, Jesus Christ, said in John 15:1–5 (NLT): “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you.” Thank You for showing us that fruitfulness flows from abiding in Christ. Without Him, we can do nothing, but in Him, we are made fruitful for Your glory.
You love us so deeply, and Your desire is that all people would be saved and come to know the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). Yet many still reject the salvation offered in Christ. Jesus came first to the covenant people of Israel, just as You promised through Abraham and David, but many turned away and refused to believe. Still, Your plan has never failed, for through Christ all nations are invited into the blessing of Abraham (Genesis 17:4).
Lord, Your Word tells us the seriousness of rejecting Christ: “But many Israelites—those for whom the Kingdom was prepared—will be thrown into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 8:12, NLT). To remain fruitless is to remain apart from Christ. But thank You that in Him, we have been grafted into the true Vine and given the chance to bear fruit that lasts.
Victory Through Christ’s Sacrifice
Thank You for the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus, our High Priest, who offered Himself for our sins and sat down at Your right hand in victory (Hebrews 10:12). Because the grave could not hold Him, we are alive in Him, and now our lives can bear witness to His saving power. Help us to remember that producing fruit is not just about good works—it is about abiding in Christ, remaining in Him, and allowing His Spirit to work through us (John 15:4–5).
Father, prune us so that we can be more like Jesus. Teach us to obey Your Word, to walk in humility, generosity, and forgiveness, to pray even for those who wrong us, and to serve faithfully with joy. May we be branches that reflect the love of Christ, so that others may taste and see that the Lord is good.
Thank You for giving the world Your only begotten Son and for the gift of Your Holy Spirit who empowers us to live fruitful lives. For these and every blessing, we give You praise. In the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray, amen.
