Galatians 5:19–21 (NLT) says, “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again… that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.”
Let’s be real—one of the biggest challenges in our Christian walk is learning how to live by the Spirit while still battling desires and patterns from our old life. We can pour ourselves into work, success, relationships—even ministry—believing we’re making progress, but still feel like something’s missing. Why? Because deep down, if we’re honest, it’s easy to center life around our goals instead of God’s heart.
Sometimes we measure our growth by what we’ve accomplished or how others perceive us. We quietly ask: Do I have enough money? Do people respect me? Have I done enough “good” to deserve a blessing? But the truth is, spiritual maturity isn’t about impressing people—it’s about surrendering more and more of our hearts to God.
This can hit especially close for singles that are believers. You love God, you’re faithful, and you’re trying to stay hopeful—but when marriage doesn’t happen on your timeline, it’s easy to feel overlooked or even punished. But hears the truth: God isn’t withholding good from you. He’s protecting what’s sacred in you. He’s healing what you didn’t even know was hurting. And He’s preparing something that isn’t just good—it’s right. You’re not behind. You’re not forgotten. You’re not being punished for your past or overlooked because of your present.
You’re in the care of a Father who knows the weight of your desire and the depth of your destiny. And when it’s time, you won’t have to force it, fear it, or fake peace to keep it.
God’s Word gives us guardrails, not to control us, but to keep us from sabotaging the very future we’re praying for. His desire is always to see His children flourish. But He also wants our hearts to be aligned with His heart—fully open, teachable, and willing to trust Him beyond our own understanding.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (NLT) reminds us: “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done…” In other words, everything we have—especially our salvation—is a gift. It’s not earned, it’s received through faith and surrender.
So if you’re waiting on God for something—whether it’s a relationship, a breakthrough, or a deeper sense of purpose—press into Him in a greater way by spending more time with Him and His Word. Ask Him to shape your heart, not just your circumstances. Let His Word refine your mindset, renew your spirit, and stretch your faith.
And to the single woman praying for a godly husband—keep your eyes on Christ. A godly man will be drawn not just to your smile, but to the fruit of the Spirit in your life. He’ll notice your peace, your patience, your joy, and how you carry yourself even when things don’t go your way. Godly love looks for depth, not just appearance.
If you sense areas where growth is needed—don’t be discouraged. Let that awareness lead you into God’s presence. Begin spending more time with Him daily. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you mirror the heart of Christ. And remember, the true “goodies from heaven” are not just the things we receive—but the transformation that happens while we wait.
When your heart becomes more like Jesus, the blessings will come—not as trophies for good behavior, but as evidence of His grace working through your life. ■
