The Refining Season

Shaped and strengthened through the fire

This is the season where the fire is turned up — not to destroy you, but to purify you. God is burning away what can’t carry you into your next place, shaping your character so your future can hold the weight of His promises. It may feel intense, but every trial is forging strength, wisdom, and a heart more like His. In the heat, gold is revealed.

Scripture Focus

“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold.” — 1 Peter 1:7 (NLT)

Pray It Through

Dear Father God, I surrender to Your refining fire. Burn away anything in me that is not like You, and shape my heart so it can carry the weight of Your blessings. Help me to see trials not as punishment, but as preparation. Teach me to trust the process, knowing You are making me stronger, purer, and more ready for the life You’ve called me to. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray, amen.

Reflection and Soul work

This is your space to slow down and meet with God about what you’ve just read. Let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart, guide your thoughts, and shape your next steps.

Why Journaling Matters

Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to “write the vision and make it plain.” When we put pen to paper, we’re not just recording thoughts—we’re partnering with the Spirit in the process of transformation. Journaling slows us down enough to notice what God is teaching, where our hearts are being stretched, and what needs healing. It turns fleeting impressions into lasting insights. As spiritually intelligent people, we don’t just hear truth—we engage it, wrestle with it, and let it shape us. Journaling is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to do that.

Reflection Question:

Where do you sense God is using pressure or challenge to shape your character, and how can you cooperate with His process instead of resisting it?

Soul Work Journaling Prompts:

  • Identify an area of your life where God may be “turning up the heat” — what might He be trying to remove or strengthen?
  • Write about a past trial that brought unexpected growth. What did you learn about God’s faithfulness?
  • How do you usually respond to difficulty, and how could that response change to reflect greater trust in Him?
