Through God’s Grace

Learning to Trust God’s Timing and Preparation

Jeremiah 29:11–14 (NLT) tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord.

Many single believers have prayed this promise year after year and still find themselves unmarried. I know the feeling. I once believed that if I just put God first, the man would come immediately—nope. What made it even harder was watching unbelieving women walk down the aisle while I was still waiting. It left me asking, What am I doing wrong?

Prepared by Grace

But God reminded me of Psalm 84:11 (NLT): “For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.” His grace covers us, His timing shapes us, and His love protects us from receiving something before we’re truly ready.

Becoming the Wife God Calls You to Be

Marriage is not just about receiving a blessing—it’s about becoming a blessing. Before we can take care of another person’s heart, God works on ours. I remember telling Him once, “Lord, I’m okay if it’s just You and me. I don’t want anyone in my life who will pull me away from You.” That was the beginning of real surrender, and surrender is what allows grace to do its work.

I’ve heard many women ask, “How much longer will God take before I meet my husband?” That’s an honest question, and I’ve asked it too. But there’s no formula, no timetable, no shortcut. As daughters of God, we are not like everyone else. What works for the world will not work for us. Our focus must remain on this unshakable truth: God is the One who writes our story. He is the matchmaker, the protector, the rewarder. Our role is to believe Him at His Word.

Shaped by Grace for Love

And when the day comes and a man asks for your hand in marriage, know this: it is not luck, it is not accident—it is a gracious reward from your Heavenly Father. And the key to walking in that blessing is gratitude. Trust Him, thank Him, and continue to make Him first. Because through His grace, you will not only receive the blessing—you will become the wife He has called you to be.

Reflection and Soul Work

  • Am I asking God for someone who simply checks all my boxes—or for someone who can walk with me through real life, real battles, and real purpose in Christ?

  • What needs to shift in the way I pray for my future marriage so that my focus is on God’s plan rather than my timeline?

  • Have I invited God to shape not only my desires, but also my discernment, so I can recognize His choice when it comes?

  • In what ways can I rely more on God’s grace—rather than my own effort—as I prepare for love and marriage?

Instead of trying to “perfect” yourself for marriage, spend this week leaning into God’s grace. Each day, pray and ask Him to show you one area where His grace is already sustaining you—whether in patience, forgiveness, or contentment. Journal how His strength, not your striving, is shaping you into the woman He’s calling you to be.

Prayer

Dear Father God,

Thank You for knowing the plans You have for me, plans for good and not disaster, to give me a future and a hope. Help me release my own checklist and surrender my desires fully to You. Shape my discernment, my heart, and my readiness, so that when Your blessing comes, I am prepared to love in a way that honors You. Teach me to trust Your timing and walk faithfully in Your will. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray, amen.
