Prepare for a Lasting Marriage
Before you say ‘I do,’ make sure your foundation is built on God—not feelings, timing, or circumstance.
You and your special someone talking about marriage? Listen, before you start dreaming about a future together, do yourself a huge favor—get quality counseling from a wise, spirit-filled, believer who knows God’s Word. You need to understand the Author of marriage before you commit, so you know exactly what you’re signing up for. Genesis 2:18 (NLT) makes it clear: God placed man in the Garden, gave him freedom, set boundaries, and said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” This truth should be anchored in our minds and hearts, because if you skip God’s blueprint, you’ll miss the whole point of the building.
Get Ready First
God set the order for a reason. He gave His Word to the man first, because readiness matters—this was His divine design, making sure the man would be grounded, equipped, and prepared to lead, love, and steward the relationship well. When the man is ready, a woman who’s prepared spiritually and emotionally will step into a union built on solid ground. Trust the process—honoring God’s design protects your future and strengthens your relationship. Timing might test your patience, but His timing is always perfect, and His plan never fails.
True Commitment Shows Up in Hard Times
Malachi 2:16 reminds us that God hates divorce. He hates it because marriage is a covenant He Himself oversees, designed for faithfulness, unity, and the thriving of both partners. Marriage isn’t just about feelings—it’s about loyalty, especially when it’s hard. Life will test you, but your response shows the foundation of your heart. Being whole and secure allows you to handle your spouse’s quirks without losing your Christ-like resolve.
Guard Your Marriage
The enemy hates families and will do everything he can to destroy the covenant of marriage. 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT) warns us: “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” He’s after what God has joined together, and he wants to create division and doubt. That’s why it’s crucial to keep God first in every area of your relationship.
Matthew 6:33 (NLT) reminds us: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” When you make God your priority by tuning your ears to His voice and walking in His Word, your marriage is strengthened and fortified. You’ll be prepared for whatever comes your way, standing together as a unified, God-centered team, able to resist the enemy’s schemes.
Marriage That Reflects God
Marriage isn’t about chance or timing—it’s about centering your life and your home on Jesus Christ, the Head over all things. When you actively seek Him, follow His guidance, and understand His calling for your marriage, your union becomes more than a relationship; it becomes a living reflection of His glory. Build on Him, guard your heart, and walk in His wisdom—and what God has joined will stand unshakable, a lasting testament to His faithfulness and love. ■
