Ecclesiastes 3:1 written across a background of fall leaves with a blue sky peaking through

Every Season Carries a Divine Purpose

Just like the earth turns from winter to spring, and from summer to fall, your life moves through seasons too. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT) reminds us, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Some seasons feel full of breakthrough, while others feel like waiting rooms that drag on forever. And if we’re honest, most of us would rather skip the waiting and get straight to the blessing.

But here’s the truth: God holds the calendar. Ecclesiastes 3:17 (NLT) says, “God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed.” Every season you walk through has a divine purpose attached to it. God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t match our urgency. So instead of rushing past the season we’re in, we need to pause and ask: What is God teaching me here? Because every season carries treasure, but it only gets revealed when we press in.

The Stretch of Sacrifice When the Waiting Feels Long

Sacrifice isn’t just about what you give up — it’s about the space you make for God to move. Hebrews 9:22 (NLT) tells us, “For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.” Under the old covenant, people brought animal sacrifices, but those offerings could only cover sin, not cleanse it. Then Jesus came. His sacrifice washed us clean forever. That’s the power of real sacrifice — it changes everything.

Ephesians 5:2 (NLT) says, “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” If Jesus lived a sacrificial life, so must we. Sometimes it means letting go of relationships, habits, or comforts that keep us stuck. Sometimes it means giving up our timeline and trusting God’s.

And yes — when it comes to marriage, sacrifice matters too. Many of us pray for it, long for it, cry out for it, but haven’t proven through sacrifice that we’re truly ready. The enemy will test this. He’ll try to prove we want the blessing without the backbone to carry it. But 1 Peter 2:21 (NLT) reminds us, “For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.” Sacrifice isn’t punishment; it’s preparation. Anything worth having is worth the price of letting go of what doesn’t serve you or honor God.

The Posture of Reverence

Every season is also an invitation to deeper reverence. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NLT) lays it out: “Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” Reverence is more than respect — it’s the posture of a heart that bows low before God, trusting Him above feelings, timelines, or circumstances.

But here’s the wrestle: when prayers feel delayed, some of us secretly blame God. We think He’s punishing us with the wait. We start scrolling for shortcuts — seminars, books, websites — as if man’s wisdom can unlock what only God can give. But a heart of doubt can’t birth a life of faith. If we want the next season to unfold, reverence must take root.

Reverence means believing God is as good as His Word says He is. It means acknowledging Him as the center, not the obstacle. It means worshiping while you wait, not grumbling in the dark. And when reverence becomes your posture, doors that were once closed swing open in His timing.

Breakthrough Is a Process, Not a Shortcut

Breakthrough Reveals God’s Power and Timing

We put a lot of emphasis on the word “breakthrough,” and with good reason. It’s more than answered prayers—it’s a greater revelation of God’s power, timing, and faithfulness. Breakthrough is also when life can be its most challenging, and we begin to recognize the true strength of our own faith. No more sitting on the sidelines. We’re actively engaged in standing firm and trusting God, even when the path isn’t clear.

Here’s the thing many of us miss: that wall–the one that separates us from what we desire most–doesn’t move until our commitment to stand on the Word equals or exceeds our desire for the blessing. When we grasp that the next level of spiritual growth is God’s goal for us, we see how our thoughts, attitudes, and actions influence how quickly and fully we transition from one season to the next. While we can’t rush God, we can align ourselves with His timing. When we do, we open the door to divine direction, strategies, and insights that help us move in partnership with our Heavenly Father rather than against Him.

Walking Into Your Next Season

Your next season isn’t somewhere far off in the distance — it’s already here. To step into it, you’ll need both the stretch of sacrifice and the posture of reverence. These aren’t chores God piles on us. They’re privileges — keys that unlock grace, power, and blessing.

So don’t waste this season by wishing it away. Press in, and let the Lord Jesus lead you every step. Offer the sacrifice He’s asking for. Lift up reverence in the middle of your waiting. And get ready — because when God moves you into your next season, it will be greater than anything you imagined.

Reflection & Soul Work

Take this season as an invitation to pause with God. Journal and pray through these questions:

  • What sacrifice is God asking me to make so He can prepare me for what’s next?
  • Where am I holding onto things—habits, relationships, timelines—that He’s asking me to release?
  • In what ways do I need to grow in reverence for God during this season?
  • Do I secretly feel disappointed in His timing? If so, how can I press into His goodness and choose trust instead?
  • What does it look like for me to honor God with both sacrifice and reverence right now?

Let this be a moment of honesty. Sacrifice stretches us, and reverence grounds us. Together, they position us to walk into the fullness of God’s next season.

Talk to God

Dear Father God,
Thank You for reminding me that every season has a purpose. Teach me to follow the example of Christ in sacrifice, letting go of what does not please You, and pressing into the things that make room for Your blessings. Grow in me a deeper reverence, so that I honor You not only with my lips, but with my heart and life. As I press into You with sacrifice and reverence, prepare me for the greater season You have ahead.
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray, amen.  ■
