Father, Is It Going to Get Better?

Dear Heavenly Father,

We don’t like to think about things like the end of time as we know it, but the world we’re living in doesn’t seem to be getting better; it seems to be getting worse. In 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NLT), You tell us, “1 You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!”

As I read this passage in 2 Timothy, I can’t help but to be struck by how timely this prophecy is. It was written over a thousand years ago, yet it is exactly what is happening today. Your Word is true, and the prophecy of it will come to pass.

Many people are feeling overwhelmed. I hear them saying things like, “I can’t wait for Jesus Christ to come back!” Some of them feel like they want to give up, and some of Your children are turning their backs on You because the weight of their burden is so heavy. They feel as though You’re not listening to their prayers. This is not the case. 1John 5:14 (ESV) says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.” Your Will is that we cast all our cares upon You. Jesus Christ invites us in Matthew 11:28 to bring all our burdens to him and learn about him, because his yoke is easy and his burden is light; he promises to give us rest.

This is what we must do, Heavenly Father. Help us, please, to increase faith in Your Word and Will, so that we can be comforted in our hearts and minds during these dark times. Your Word has not changed, and You tell us in Malachi 3:6 that You do not change.

You said in Hebrews 13:5 that You will never leave or forsake us. No matter how things look, You hold our tomorrows, and our whole aim should be to please and honor You. You have told us in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for the good of Your children who love and honor You, and who seek to live according to Your purpose.

We pray that things will get better in this earthly realm, but even if they don’t, Your Word stands! It is the truth! And it assures us that You will not abandon Your people. So, when Christians see the things that are happening globally, we should not respond the way we see the world responding. You want us to pray and trust that You will back us, no matter what, because we are Your people. You will help those who place their trust in You. Help us to stand firm in Your promises, Heavenly Father, and to be confident that if we stand on the truth of Your Word, we will be more than all right. Help us to walk by faith and not by sight, so that we are not knocked off our firm foundation in Christ.

Thank You, Holy and Glorious Heavenly Father for helping us to be a blessing to Your Kingdom. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
