Thank God for the Blessing of Wisdom

Dear Heavenly Father,

You tell us in Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Father, this makes it crystal clear that it isn’t enough to just have knowledge or to have a mind like a computer. We need Your wisdom, and we need understanding. Your wisdom provides what we need to comprehend and digest knowledge. There are lots of smart people in the world, but they are not using knowledge in the right way. As believers, this must be our goal. We should desire to want the right knowledge from Your Word, and we should also desire to rightly divide it so we can use the knowledge of Your Word in the right way.

There are many people that don’t know Your Word, and they don’t have a desire to know it. They are blinded by the devil, and he distracts them using many evil tactics. You tell us in 2Corinthians 4:4 that satan is the god of this world, and he blinds the minds of people, so they are unable to see the glorious light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They don’t understand the Good News of Christ, and because of this, they are lost. They don’t know their identity and that You created us to be the very image of Your only begotten Son.

Heavenly Father, wisdom is such a wonderful gift. You want everyone to be wise so they can understand Your Word. James 1:5(NLT) tells us, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” You want us to ask You when we don’t understand the knowledge that is contained in the Bible, and You will not be angry with us if we ask for Your help, but most people will not ask You, and this is indeed sad.

When I’m at work or even hanging out with friends, I see how much the devil has corrupted the minds of people. It is evident in the way they speak and behave. They don’t love one another or respect each other. People are very angry, and they don’t care who they hurt. This is not the way of Christ. When people behave with such darkness in their hearts, it is because they haven’t taken the time to know You through Your Word. They don’t realize that the love of Christ will set them free from the bondage of anger, resentment, and bitterness.

Heavenly Father, please turn the hearts and minds of people to You. We desperately need Your help. I have so much to learn in Your Word, but even the little that I do know, I want to pour it all into those I meet, but I recognize that not everyone will be willing to take in Your Word. Some will reject it, and this is why we must seek You and be guided by Your Spirit in all matters. Even when people do not behave kindly towards us, as believers, we must be kind to one another and show kindness even to those that are unkind.

Thank You for the ability to understand Your Word, for having minds that are not blinded from Your truth and can comprehend it. You have blessed us with wisdom. Please help us to continue to grow in it, and to be strengthened in our desire and resolve to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen. ■
