A Journey Through His Life, Teachings, and Eternal Purpose

Listen to What He Said

The Life of Jesus Christ | Part Five

Introduction

If we want to know Jesus, we also have to listen to what He said. Jesus taught about faith, prayer, forgiveness, obedience, love, money, sin, judgment, eternal life, and the Kingdom of God. He taught people how to live, but His words continually pointed them beyond their behavior to their relationship with God.

01 | He Taught Us About the Father

Jesus taught people about the Father. He told them that the Father knew what they needed before they asked. He taught them to pray, “Our Father in heaven.” He told them that their heavenly Father cared for them and knew even the number of hairs on their heads. But Jesus also made it clear that knowing the Father could not be separated from knowing Him.

02 | I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life

John 14:6 (NLT) says, “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”

That is one of the clearest statements Jesus ever made about Himself. He didn’t say that He knew a way to God or that He had come to show people one possible way. Jesus said that He is the way. He is the truth. He is the life. And He said that no one comes to the Father except through Him.

03 | He Taught Us How to Live

Jesus also taught about the Kingdom of God, and His message was clear from the beginning of His ministry. Mark 1:15 (NLT) says, “‘The time promised by God has come at last!’ he announced. ‘The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!’”

He called people to repent, believe the Good News, forgive, love their enemies, care for those in need, and obey God from the heart. He challenged people who were more concerned about appearing righteous than actually living in obedience to God. His teaching reached beyond outward behavior and dealt with what was happening inside a person.

And Jesus didn’t only teach these things. He lived them. He forgave. He loved. He served. He obeyed the Father. Everything He taught was consistent with the life He lived.

Conclusion | More Than Good Advice

So when we listen to the words of Jesus, we are not simply collecting good advice for living. We are listening to the One who came from the Father, showed us the Father, and calls us to follow Him.

Lord, help me not just to hear Your Words, but to truly listen. Teach me to follow You, the way, the truth, and the life.

NEXT TEACHING · PART SIX

Look at the Cross

Jesus Christ taught us how to live, but He came to accomplish something we could never accomplish for ourselves. In our next teaching, we’ll examine why He willingly went to the Cross and what His sacrifice means for our salvation.

His Words Lead Us to Life

The words of Jesus Christ are more than wise teachings to admire. They reveal the Father, confront the condition of our hearts, and call us into a life of faith and obedience. Jesus didn’t simply tell us the truth. He is the truth, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. As we learn to listen to His words and follow Him, we begin to understand more deeply why He came—and why the Cross was necessary.
