Are You Really That Deep?

We live in an environment where people are experiencing many conditions that stem from a false identity of themselves. Some pretend to have it all together, but inside they are falling apart because they don’t feel secure. From the very beginning, God wired humanity to feel good about themselves, and this ‘feeling good’ stems from taking on His thoughts, trusting in Him, and sharing His Word every opportunity that we get. His intention for humanity is for us to be in continual fellowship and communion with Him. It’s our togetherness and connection to God that allows us to bask in His overflow of security and wellness. But the truth is that many of us are really struggling to get to this place, and we should be willing to go deep in order to find out why.

The great minds of our times have produced the kind of technological gadgets that are supposed to make life more convenient, but we are busier than ever and seem to be moving further away from God. He has told us in His Word that each generation becomes more intelligent and weaker. Our level of endurance declines, and the more we rely on modern conveniences, the less time we use to focus on God and think deeply about His Word. In our places of worship and fellowship, people can be seen going through the motions of worship and praise, but their hearts are far from God. They are more interested in being entertained than taught the truth so they can develop intimacy with our Creator.

Every time we have the distinct and great privilege and honor to come into our Heavenly Father’s presence, we are made better. This is the truth. Increase and being made better is the evidence that we have had an authentic encounter with Him. It cannot be said that the child of God is becoming more dysfunctional, more addicted, more obsessed, and more fragmented if their witness of encountering our powerful Lord is to be believed. So, we can’t allow ourselves to become sucked into just going through the motions. Heavenly Father tells us in Romans 12:2 to be extremely watchful that we are not conformed to this world. We must be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Our Heavenly Father wants us to wake up to our Christ identity, and to do this, our hearts and minds have to change. We must become more and more intertwined in His love, and when we are, blessings will chase us down. Understand that manifold treasures are packed within wisdom and knowledge about the Lord Jesus Christ. Colossians 2:3(NLT) states that “In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” As believers, we have a duty to study and get to know Jesus Christ as well as he can be known because this is the way to God’s heart.

Going deep is deeply studying God’s Word regarding the person of Jesus Christ. This is our mandate as God’s called out ones. We don’t have to be Biblical scholars, but God commands us in 2Timothy 2:15 to be workmen of the Word that are approved before Him. This means that we know the Good News well enough to correctly explain the truth to those under our span of influence. If this is not your current state, it’s time for a shift in your prayer life. With all due haste, pray to be teachable, and more urgently, take the steps to learn more about Jesus Christ. Read and listen more attentively.

So many of us bypass the opportunities to read about Jesus, and we also bypass the opportunities to witness to others about him. Instead, we allow our minds to be bent with flowery and clever words spoken by those who lead us away from the Gospel and not to it. Jesus Christ tells us in John 8:32 that the truth makes us free, and we cannot be free by believing a lie. We have to get into the Word to the point that we are grounded in the truth and can stand on it for ourselves.

Colossians 2:7(NLT) instructs us, “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” When our roots are deep in Christ, we will be like a tree that is planted by the river. We will not be worried when the temperature heats up, and we’ll be calm and confident through droughts. We’ll produce fruit for God’s Kingdom because we are continually refreshed and replenished by Him. This is what it means to have roots that are deep in Christ. Many of us think we’re that deep but if indeed we are, we have produced much fruit.

Wherever you are in your thoughts about what is possible for your life, go higher. Think higher. Believe with your whole heart that God wants the best for you, and that He is willing to help you achieve it. So many of us have waited and waited. We didn’t apply ourselves to His Word and didn’t study it because we thought we had more time to walk boldly in Christ. So, we refused to see the light and put it on hold. We’ve been comfortable with our habits and worldly way of thinking, but time is drawing near. Time is no longer on our side. Don’t wait until things are at such a level that you lack the faith and spiritual strength to deal with them. Now is the time to do all you can to stand strong on God’s Word. Then the love of Christ will be deeply rooted in your heart, and you will be able to know the overwhelming joy of standing strong on God’s Word and leading others to him through Christ.■
