God Takes Care of Our Needs

Genesis 2:23(NLT)
“At last!” the man exclaimed.”  This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called woman, because she was taken from man.”

After God created the first man, Adam, He assigned responsibilities for Adam to take care of. Some of these duties included managing the beautiful garden that Heavenly Father had given him to inhabit. As we learn a little more about Adam’s life and walk with God from the Book of Genesis, we can see that Adam was created with intelligence and creativity already baked in. Genesis 2:19 tells us that after God formed all the animals and birds, He brought them to Adam to name them all. Heavenly Father would not have done this if Adam lacked the mental ability to get it done. Adam was smart, and as lovely as the animals were, they were not adequate to meet his needs, and Heavenly Father knew they wouldn’t be. Making a helper for Adam was always God’s plan.

When we are faithful and seek God first in our lives, our Heavenly Father always meets our needs. The Apostle Paul declared in Philippians 4:19(ESV), And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” This is God’s promise, and it is where our faith must be firmly planted. Jesus Christ taught us in Matthew 6:8 that our Heavenly Father knows exactly what we need even before we ask Him. Nothing slips by God. He is intimately familiar with every detail of our lives. And in this same chapter of Matthew, Jesus Christ teaches us how to pray in such a way that we keep ourselves within God’s covering of blessings and safety.

First, Jesus tells us that we should come before Heavenly Father with reverence and respect for His holiness. Then, we must make it known to God that we understand that His Will is above everything! It’s above every person, place, or thing. Nothing comes before God’s Will and Word, and we must pray in agreement with this truth. We must tell the Lord that our hearts and minds are aligned with His Will being done on earth as it is in heaven. This is important because sometimes we say we are in agreement with God’s Will, but our actions convey something else. Many of us don’t think thoughts or don’t have feelings, attitudes, and emotions that are aligned with what God says in His Word. In fact, we’re thinking, feeling, and behaving in opposition to how He says we should be. This is problematic because God’s blessings and provisions are released through obedience to His Will and Word.

Through the record of Adam, we saw a very important pattern. God always knew that Adam would have a need for companionship, but before this need came into full view, a few other things were at play, and this is extremely crucial for us to know. Before companionship, God gave Adam responsibilities, and Adam responded to God’s assignments by completing them. We must note that our Heavenly Father doesn’t change. He expected Adam to follow through and do as He had asked, and He expects the same of us.

Heavenly Father is masterful in our creation, and He expects us to lean on Him for everything through faith. This faith is demonstrated through our obedience to what God tells us to do and how He tells us to live. He wants to keep us under the arc of His safety and care, and we can choose to remain there our entire lives, but it is indeed a choice. It’s just as God told His people through His servant, Moses, in Deuteronomy 30:19(NLT), “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” This same choice to clothe ourselves in God’s love is before us every day we live and breathe.

At some point, none of us know exactly when it was, Adam and Eve decided that they no longer wanted to do what God asked of them, and this was a catastrophic error. Like some of us, they thought a more fulfilling existence could be had if they took matters into their own hands. They didn’t want to wait for God to teach them more about Himself. They didn’t want to be patient as He prepared them for what lied ahead, and they didn’t believe Him when He said, “If you eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, you’re going to die.” So, they lost everything. Let’s not do that. God is not slack in any regard. He will take care of our needs according to His riches in glory. The husband, family, house, car, job, or whatever the need may be, if we will place our faith in God through the Lord Jesus Christ, and be obedient to His Word, He is faithful to supply all our needs. ■
