Undiscovered Abundance

We are spiritual beings having an earth experience. One of the biggest mistakes we can make as earth dwellers is to forget this truth. In Ephesians 1:3(NLT), God tells us that He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” Every blessing from God is a spiritual blessing because Our Creator is a Spirit. Therefore, everything that comes from Him is spiritual, including us. Because of what God has accomplished through the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ, we can become God’s spiritual children. 1Thessalonians 5:23 informs us that we are spiritual beings with a soul, and we live in a body. We should also know that the laws that God has decreed for our existences cause our spirits to flourish and our lives to be blessed. This is what He wants for all of us, but when we violate God’s requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands, we lose pace with the blissful reality that He desires us to have. We can prevent this from happening and we should.

In the Old Testament, God told Moses to tell His people in Deuteronomy 11:1,26-28(NLT), 1 You must love the LORD your God and obey all his requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands. 26 Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse! 27 You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today. 28 But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the LORD your God and turn away from him and worship gods you have not known before.” God would not force them to obey all His requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands. He gave them a choice, and this choice was between living a blessed existence or a cursed one. God would not overstep their free-will, and He will not overstep our free-will either. In order to be blessed, they had to choose to love Him through obedience, and so do we.

We live in a three-dimensional world, and it is very easy to get caught up with worldly pleasures and primarily seek to gratify the flesh. Most people have an approach to life that is geared towards doing whatever they please. They don’t seek God first and are not concerned with obeying His Will. They want what they want when they want it. If our actions are motivated by our flesh and what pleases it, this is living in the flesh or living according to our sinful nature. Romans 8:8(ESV) says, “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” So, we need to understand that living in the flesh is not the way God created us to live. He created us to live by the Spirit. Our Heavenly Father commands us in Galatians 5:16(NLT), “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”

God’s treasures are spiritual blessings, and we all want them. He tells us in Ephesians 1:3 that He’s blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. We must recognize that every blessing is spiritual, and every spiritual blessing has its origin in heaven, where the One who owns and bestows them resides. They are transferred from the spiritual realm to the natural realm by our faith in God, and our faith in God isn’t something we can see or touch. Our faith in God is a spiritual reality as well, and it causes God’s blessings to materialize in our lives.

2Corinthians 5:7(ESV) says, for we walk by faith, not by sight.” This verse gives us the contrast between walking in the spiritual realm of our faith in God versus walking through life only believing in what our physical eyes can perceive. We miss so many of God’s blessings when we walk by sight and only trust what our eyes can see. We all know that our Father’s riches and abundance are beyond anything we can imagine, and He wants to lavish them on us, but we must have the spiritual eyes to see His spiritual treasures. They are revealed through the eyes of our faith.

Many of us are afraid to step outside our comfort zones to see a greater vision for our lives. We have been stuck in the past, holding onto memories and what has been. We have to release all of that. We must let go and empty our lives of the things that have held us back for years. Past heartbreak, old memories and regrets, and bitterness over mistakes can keep our arms so full that we don’t have room to hold the newness God wants to bring into our lives. The past is blinding our eyes to such a degree that we can’t see beyond or above all the stuff we’re holding. The answer is always to have greater faith in God. When we get into His Word, and step out on His promises, our faith will reveal undiscovered abundance! It will be the great desires that our spiritual eyes have imagined and our hearts have believed and longed to receive. ■
