Where Are You with God?

Matthew 6:8 (NLT)
“For your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!”

Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that God created Adam in His own image, and He then took a rib from Adam’s body and made Eve, Adam’s wife. Our Heavenly Father gave them dominion to reign within the earth but the enemy, satan, wanted earth for himself. Cunning, deceptive, and evil through and through, the devil pulled a trick on Eve, and she fell for it. She got her husband, Adam, to sin against God in the same way that she did. They believed the lies satan told them over and above the Word of truth that God had spoken. This was a mistake so catastrophic that it transferred them from immortal life to death, a consequence that is still impacting us over seven thousand years later.

All was not lost. 1John 4:10(NLT) tells us, This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” Jesus Christ is the precious lamb of God, and our Father sent him to the earth to sacrifice his life so that we could be saved from sin and death. Through Christ, God gives us eternal life. We are saved by the blood of the lamb that was shed for our sins. Now, we can stand before our Heavenly Father with no sense of guilt, sin, or condemnation. God has clothed us with HIS righteousness. We didn’t have any of our own, but He changed this so that we would be able to have the kind of relationship with Him that He always wanted. Romans 5:18(NLT) tells us,Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.”

Adam and Eve went from being “naked, but they felt no shame”, as Genesis 2:25 tells us, to feeling exposed, naked, and ashamed. Genesis 3:7(NLT) says, At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.” After they had sinned against God, they lost their position and standing with Him, and they suddenly became very aware that they had lost this tremendously significant treasure. Their response to this loss was to try to hide themselves from God, and sadly, many of us are still trying to do this today.

Genesis 3:8-9(NLT) tells us, 8 When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees. 9 Then the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”” This is very symbolic of our lives because sometimes, we lose our way. We get stuck in a habit pattern or mindset that knocks us out of our position of holiness and reverence for God. He’s calling out to us, “where are you…” and He is waiting on us to make our way back to Him.

2Chronicles 16:9(NLT), “The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” Sometimes our hearts become full of our desires and personal agendas, but God commands us to love Him with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength. He should never have to ask where we are. We should always be in a place of awe of His perfection and goodness, and if our hearts are truly reverencing Him according to His Word, this is the place we’ll always be.■
