Solid Foundations Won’t Crack

Proverbs 9:13 (NLT)
“The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it.”

There are some clear distinctions between a woman of the world and a woman after God’s Heart. A woman who truly loves the Lord will strive daily to live in a way that pleases Him. Her heart is surrendered to His Will, and she seeks to walk in obedience—even when it’s not easy. But the woman of the world? She could care less about what God says. Her values are rooted in appearance, status, and temporary gain. That’s where her heart is, and that’s what drives her. So her treasures are stored in the things of this world, not in heaven. Psalm 127:1 (NLT) says, “unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted.” A life with no foundation in Christ will crumble. Her house won’t stand, because it’s not built on solid ground. And we don’t want to be like that woman.

The woman whose foundation is the Word won’t fall apart when the waiting season feels long or lonely. She’s anchored in truth. Her identity is secure in Christ, not in a relationship status. In Matthew 7:24–25 (NLT), Jesus said, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” But the woman who builds on emotion, pressure, or fear of being alone is building on sand. And when disappointment, rejection, or unmet expectations hit, her heart gets crushed. Why? Because it wasn’t built to hold her up.

In Matthew 7:26–27 (NLT), Jesus continued, “But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” If your life is centered on being chosen by a man instead of being chosen by God, that’s a shaky foundation. God must be the builder, as Psalm 127:1 reminds us. You can be busy doing all the things—posting, praying, preparing—but if God’s not the one doing the building, it’s not going to last.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) tells us, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” We have to stop trying to blend in. Don’t just go with the flow of culture, or mimic what everybody else is doing, just because it’s loud, trending, or easy. God’s not trying to give us a surface-level makeover; He’s transforming us from the inside out. And this solid foundation doesn’t happen in a crowd. It’s built in the secret place. That space where nobody’s watching. No likes, no applause, no outside validation—just you and God. He’s the only One who sees you, and you allow Him to deal with your thoughts, your fears, and your expectations.

God’s not interested in you performing for Him. He wants your heart, your honesty, and your surrender. That’s where transformation begins. When you allow Him into those messy, private corners—He does something supernatural. He helps you change how you think, and when your mind gets renewed, your life starts to align. Suddenly, you’re not guessing at life anymore—you’re walking in God’s Will. And His will is not just “good” like a polite compliment, it’s deep and satisfying on every level.

A woman named Folly is a woman of the world. She’s led by outside voices. She measures her worth by how many likes, followers, or compliments she gets. But a woman after God’s heart is led by the Spirit. Proverbs 31:30 (NLT) says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.” She moves different because her worth is rooted in the eternal presence of God.

No doubt, marriage is a blessing, but it’s not your foundation—it’s part of the building. Jesus is the cornerstone. If he’s not holding it all together, it will eventually fall apart. Colossians 2:6–7 (NLT) tells us, “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness” So before you pray for the ring, pray for the root. Ask God to do the deep work. Ask Him to help you build your life on something that won’t shift with time or pressure. Let His Word shape what you desire and how you wait. Because solid foundations don’t crack—and neither will you, if your life is truly built on Him. ■
