A Dream Waiting to Happen

Time is passing with increased momentum, and for many single followers of Christ, fear begins to settle in. They wonder if anything will ever change. A fulfilling life with someone to walk through it with feels less like a dream waiting to happen—and more like a dream slowly slipping away. But Matthew 16:19 (NLT) gives us critical wisdom from Jesus himself: “And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” This verse holds the clarity and empowerment we need.

If the single woman allows this truth to soak deep into her soul, she’ll begin walking in alignment with God’s way instead of trying to mimic what she sees others doing. It’s not about what seems to work for the world—it’s about what God says works. And when we follow His lead, we find not only a fulfilling marriage, but a purposeful life.

Many Christian women carry a quiet, heavy weight from managing life without a husband or partner to lean on. When challenges get real, it takes a boatload of faith to stand firm. I know of a woman who went through a tough week—her kitchen faucet broke, her refrigerator began failing, and it all hit at once. Worn down and overwhelmed, she considered calling up an old flame—someone she knew wasn’t God-sent—but she paused. She knew that door had been closed for a reason. Reopening it would’ve been more about leaning on human help than trusting God’s sufficiency. In the end, God made a way, but the journey through it felt so much harder alone.

God tells us to trust Him. And faith is about trusting in our powerful God even though we can’t physically see Him. We spend most of our lives working this out in our hearts and minds—increasing in faith as we grow in Christ. When life throws a monkey wrench in our plans, we have to ask ourselves: do I really trust God to meet my needs? It’s not that He tests us—He already knows our hearts—but He does challenge us to stop focusing on what we lack and start seeing what we already have. Romans 15:13 (NLT) encourages us with this reminder: “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

None of us want to live with disappointment, and it often feels easier to trust what we can see or control. Single women may wonder, will God really bless me with a good man? That’s what doubting God can look like—when fear whispers louder than faith, and the wait just feels endless. But the truth is, God can direct anyone to find you. He can open the right doors, shift hearts, and place you on someone’s spirit without you having to chase it down. He can provide the support you need, settle your heart, and cause every financial crisis to fade. But that kind of peace and provision starts with doing as Jesus Christ commands in Matthew 6:33: seeking God first—not seeking attention, validation, or love in places that can’t carry the weight of your soul.

The fear of never marrying is real for many women. So is the fear that no one will love them enough to marry them. But this is an area God tells us not to worry about. Jesus reminds us of our value in Matthew 6:26 (NLT): “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your Heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” You might be questioning your worth, but God has already answered it in full. His answer is yes. You are valuable. You are seen. And yes, your dream is still alive—held safely in His hands, waiting for His perfect timing.■
