Making the choice to walk with the Lord every day is truly a blessing. There is always something new to learn on this journey with Christ. And every time the Lord opens our understanding, our thinking is lifted higher—and most importantly, our faith in Jesus Christ grows stronger.
Recently, I received greater revelation about the meaning of grace. I already understood that God’s grace covers us when we sin, but what I hadn’t fully realized is that grace is not only God’s abundant covering—it is also something He gives us to help us overcome and grow stronger in Christ.
2 Corinthians 12:7–9 (NLT) says: “7 even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. 8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. 9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
Paul prayed three times for the thorn to be removed. How many times have we prayed this same prayer? When something troubles us to the point that it becomes overwhelming, our first response is to ask God to remove the thorn. But sometimes, instead of removing the thorn, God gives us the wisdom, strength, and understanding we need to overcome it. He gives us a spiritual strategy that covers and keeps us on the path of growth, purpose, and closeness with Him. That is His grace at work. It is the way He equips us to endure and walk in the victory of Christ.
That is why the Lord said, “My grace is all you need.” What God provides is enough. Sometimes He removes the problem, but other times He strengthens us in the middle of it. And through that process, we are being shaped to become more like our powerful Lord and Savior.
1 John 2:6 (NLT) reminds us, “Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” Following Christ means more than believing in Him—it means learning to walk the way He walked. Jesus trusted the Father completely, even in moments of suffering and pressure. In the same way, when we face our own challenges, we lean on the grace God provides. That grace strengthens us, steadies our hearts, and helps us keep moving forward in faith.
1 John 5:4-5 (NLT) says, “4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” This passage tells us that victory belongs to every person who has been born of God. It’s not speaking about a victory we manufacture by our own strength, but a victory that flows from our relationship with Christ and our faith in Him.
So when the thorn in your life feels heavy and you find yourself asking God to take it away, remember that His grace is all we need. The strength, wisdom, and help He provides are never small things—they are exactly what we need to stand firm and keep moving forward. Through His grace, we learn to endure, to trust Him more deeply, and to grow stronger in Christ with every step we take. ■
