Is Jesus Christ Your Foundation?

What We Build Our Lives On Determines What Remains

John 15:5 (NLT) tells us, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” We’ve been talking a lot about this phenomenal verse lately because it impacts every single thing we do. It’s such a powerful statement because it reminds us that Jesus Christ is not simply part of our lives. He is meant to be the foundation of our lives. Many people want God’s blessings, God’s favor, and God’s direction, but they are still trying to build according to their own plans. The truth is that anything built apart from Christ may stand for a season, but it will never produce the lasting fruit that comes from remaining grounded in Him.

Everything Was Created Through Him and For Him

Colossians 1:16 (NLT) tells us, “for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.” That verse reveals something many believers overlook. Our lives are not centered on us. They are centered on Christ. We were created through Him and for Him. Every gift, opportunity, relationship, assignment, and purpose ultimately finds its meaning in Him. When we gave our lives to Jesus Christ, we did not simply add Him to an already existing plan. We surrendered lordship to Him. That means our decisions, priorities, goals, and direction should all be built upon His wisdom rather than our own understanding. The strongest foundation any believer can have is a life fully anchored in Christ.

The world often tells us that surrender means losing freedom, but God’s Word teaches the opposite. The enemy would love for us to believe that God is withholding something good from us, that obedience is restrictive, or that following Christ will somehow diminish our lives. Yet Scripture continually reveals a God who is intentional, loving, and committed to our growth. He knows the end from the beginning. He sees what we cannot see. Many of the frustrations we experience come from trying to hold onto the driver’s seat while asking God to bless the route we have chosen. True peace comes when we trust the One who already knows the destination.

Becoming Like Christ Is the Goal

Romans 8:29 (NLT) tells us, “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” Sometimes we focus so much on what we want God to do for us that we lose sight of what He is doing within us. God’s highest goal is not simply our comfort, success, or convenience. His desire is that we become more like Jesus Christ. Every season, every lesson, every act of obedience, and every step of faith is contributing to that work. The more we understand this, the easier it becomes to surrender what we cannot control and trust the One who holds our future in His hands.

When Jesus Christ is truly our foundation, surrender no longer feels like a burden. It becomes an act of trust. We begin to understand that God’s Will is not competing with our good; it is leading us into it. The safest place a believer can be is not in control of their own life but resting in the hands of the One who created them, redeemed them, and knows exactly where He is taking them. When Christ is the foundation, we are able to stand firm regardless of what comes because our lives are built upon something that cannot be shaken. ■
