You Were Chosen Before Time Began
You didn’t just all of a sudden decide to be God’s child. He handpicked you out before you were even in your mother’s womb. He purposed your existence before the foundation of the world. This mind-blowing piece of revelation isn’t news to you, I’m sure, because Ephesians 1:5, 11 (NLT) confirms it in God’s Word: “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ… Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.” That means your existence carries divine intention.
With this divine intention comes resistance. That’s why some things in your life haven’t come easy, why you’ve faced struggle after struggle, and why opposition often seems to find you. It’s not random. It’s tied to your purpose.
Struggles Point to the Weight of Your Calling
There may have been more people working against you than those that have worked with you, and you can’t understand why everything has to be so difficult at times. Why is it that you continue to endure hardships through the wait, and your breakthrough still hasn’t happened?
Your breakthrough and purpose are connected. God has goals for each of us, and one of His greatest goals is for truth to become the prominent part of our nature. He wants His Word to so permeate our brain cells and hearts that when we enter a room, the first thing that people see is the Christ in us. There’s a process to this. Who we are today isn’t all that we will become.
God doesn’t cause our pain, but He never wastes it. He employs it to shape our capacity so when the blessing comes, we’re able to carry it. Romans 8:28 (NLT) reminds us, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Your fight is proof that what’s inside you is significant.
The Missing Piece of Truth – We Need It to Grow Spiritually
Child of the Most High, the one thing that you must know with every fiber in your being is that the answer to the question “Where is my breakthrough?” is contained in the piece of truth that you have yet to put on in your mind and heart. You can deny this, neglect it, and refuse to do anything about it, but every single occurrence in your life will bring you back to this reality. There is no denying that you have gained biblical knowledge and spiritual know-how over the years. This is in your arsenal right now, but as it relates to the breakthrough blessing that you are seeking for your life, there’s a specific truth that you haven’t yet comprehended on the deepest level. You haven’t comprehended it on a level that spearheads a transformation that is required for the blessing you seek.
Breakthrough doesn’t arrive simply because we’ve been waiting long enough; it comes when we’ve been transformed deeply enough. Acts 3:19 (NLT) says, “Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord.” That’s breakthrough language—refreshment. The Spirit keeps leading us to pieces of truth we haven’t fully put on yet. Until that truth penetrates your heart and shifts your mind, the door to breakthrough stays shut. God’s goal isn’t just to bless you; it’s to form Christ in you so that His Word becomes the loudest voice in your life.
The Requirement of Spiritual Growth
It isn’t God’s desire that we suffer and struggle, but some of us go through it so much longer than we need to. In most cases, it’s because we won’t seek God with all of our hearts, strength, souls, and minds for this particular piece of spiritual armor. His grace and mercy covers us through the struggle, but it doesn’t remove from us the responsibility to seek. It is our obligation to prove to Heavenly Father that we can handle the heft of the blessing we desire. We’re more than conquerors, and Jesus Christ has already told us in Luke 12:48(KJV) that “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” The ‘much’ that is required is an activation of increased supernatural ability through the Holy Spirit.
Life Must Be Handled Spiritually
John 1:3 (NLT) tells us, “God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.” Everything that exists was made by God, and John 4:24 (NLT) affirms, “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” That means life doesn’t run on human effort; it runs on spiritual strength. Every breath, every blessing, every breakthrough is sustained by the Spirit of God, which is why our growth, our purpose, and our ability to step into breakthrough all hinge on our spiritual growth in Christ.
We were made in God’s image, which means life in the Spirit isn’t optional—it’s the only way forward. In other words, we must handle life in a spiritual way, and that way is through Jesus Christ, because He is the way! (John 14:6). We must live as He lived—through love, through prayer, and through good works. Greater knowledge and spiritual understanding in Christ isn’t just helpful; it’s the key to every problem, condition, and situation we face.
This is why prayer in the powerful name of Jesus Christ is absolutely essential. Prayer aligns us with His power, positions us in His Will, and moves us into the flow where blessings break through walls that separate the natural from the supernatural.
Positioned by Past Faith, Stretched for More
The exact place where you stand right now is the sum total of your mental, emotional, and spiritual maturity in Christ. The environment you move through, the people you encounter, even the blessings you enjoy are all reflections of your past faith and your pursuit of God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Every good thing you see in your life today is fruit of seeds sown in prayer and obedience yesterday.
But the gaps tell a story too. Any lack you’re experiencing, or the cracks showing in the surface of your comfort, are revealing the distance between where you are and what is required to step into greater truth and greater blessing. If breakthrough still feels out of reach, let this settle in your spirit: first, more is being required of you; and second, it’s time to pray consistently, fervently, and specifically for spiritual growth and maturity.
The Enemy’s Resistance and God’s Preparation
God knows the weight of the breakthrough He has prepared for you, and He also knows the pitfalls that will come with it. You must understand this—your breakthrough is not only about blessing, it is also about battle. Jesus warned us in John 10:10 (NLT), “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” The enemy has studied your patterns, and he will vigorously work to derail you. That’s why God, as your Heavenly Father, leads you through tests, teaching you how to follow His lead across rugged terrain. The real question is: how well are you following?
Think about it. When things didn’t go your way, did you release it to the Lord, or did bitterness take root? When the relationship ended, did you surrender it, or did vengeance rise up? When you learned a sister was a gossip, did you walk away, or do you still entertain her? In your finances, have you remained faithful in tithing—and even stretched to increase—or have you settled for the minimum? And under pressure, do you overreact in the flesh, or do you instantly press into prayer?
Positioned for Intersection
The enemy knows that God will wonderfully reward your faithfulness, and he doesn’t want to see this happen. Don’t be tricked. Circumstances in the natural cannot dictate your response in the spiritual. Let me say this again, because if we don’t get this one, our promotions will continue to be prolonged: our spiritual response to God’s goodness cannot be controlled by the stuff that happens in our everyday lives. Your purpose and breakthrough will inevitably intersect, and when they do, you can reach out and grab what is yours, but you will not recognize the breakthrough when it arrives if you are ill-prepared.
Your purpose is God’s predetermined assignment for your life. Your breakthrough is the alignment of God-ordained circumstances that manifest when you’re spiritually ready. When the two intersect, blessing flows—but only if your roots in Christ are strong. Promotion doesn’t come when you’re perfect; it comes when what was weak has been made strong through your persistence in faith.
Standing Ready When Purpose and Breakthrough Intersect
When purpose and breakthrough intersect, consistency must already be woven into the way you nurture your relationship with Heavenly Father. Your spiritual responses to everything in your environment should flow out of the intimacy you’ve cultivated with Him through Jesus Christ. As your faith increases, it should continually fortify your ability to stay firm under pressure. That’s why Scripture tells us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NLT)—not only when a crisis arises, but as the rhythm of our lives. And when you pray in tongues, you glorify God and edify yourself in the Spirit—not just as a reaction to disaster, but as a discipline of devotion.
Promotion in the form of breakthrough comes when the weak place in your spiritual stand is made strong. That very place becomes the foundation of your commitment to follow God no matter how circumstances appear. It keeps you steady when blessings increase and when trials intensify, ensuring that nothing—positive or negative—causes you to miss a beat in your relationship with your Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
This is why spiritual growth and maturity are not optional. Without them, purpose is missed, and we live beneath our privilege as God’s children. It is critical that you give your entire being to seeking God in the most earnest way you know how. Seek to grow in the Spirit and let this be your chief pursuit. Your Father is in charge of rewards; your role is to remain spiritually poised—to be in the right place, at the right time, in the right posture—so that you receive what He has prepared for you. ■
