You Are Not Alone

If you’re a single mom, then life on your own is not always an easy road to tow. There are times when situations seem to require more of your strength than you think you have. Sometimes we are not nurturing to ourselves because we are too busy taking care of our children and others. We don’t even notice that we’re running on fumes. It’s not until a situation comes on the scene, and it happens to absorb too much of our resources, that we realize that we are almost depleted. At this point, we have a very important question to ask ourselves, do we fill our tanks, or do we keep running on empty?

We know the most logical answer to this question, but this doesn’t mean that we will take all the necessary steps to allow God to recharge our batteries. One of the greatest areas of unbelief and wrong believing in the Christian community exists in our lack of knowledge regarding the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Our Heavenly Father is an on purpose God. There is a reason and a season for everything that He does. It cannot be lost on us that God had extremely important reasoning for making the Holy Spirit an inside job.

Jesus Christ said in John 14:16-17 (NLT), 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.” The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He is the very essence of God. He is a person more real than you and I. His power is beyond our comprehension. It is off the scale of any tool we would use to measure it.

After the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to dwell inside of all those that are born again of God’s Spirit and choose to walk in and by His power. This is an amazing, spectacular truth, and we have to meditate upon it until it sinks into our consciousness. The Holy Spirit is no ordinary gift. He brings to us the full breath of his power, and we desperately need it.

The Holy Spirit is our comforter. Jesus Christ told the disciples in John 14:25-27(NLT), “25 I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. 26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” You are not alone; not ever. The Spirit is always with you because he is inside you. He knows what you need, because he is aware of your thoughts and actions. He knows when your battery is running low, and he will help you if you will learn to lean upon his strength.

You may have a broken marriage that has left you with the load of taking care of your kids all alone, or maybe you’ve always been the sole breadwinner for your family. When the chief parenting role falls on your shoulders, so many problems can hit all at once. You may be in need of a job that pays more money. Maybe your child is experiencing behavioral difficulties and you feel at your wits end. These are tough situations for REAL! You can feel so isolated, and you’ve become accustomed to staying on your grind, and doing what you have to do in order to make your life work. When you feel this way, don’t go deeper into the silo of depletion and isolation. Release yourself to the Spirit’s care.

Jesus Christ told us in John 14:27 that the Gift will give us peace of mind and heart. Lean into that peace. Take the time to quiet your soul by repeating the powerful name of Jesus Christ over and over again. While you do this, stay your mind on God. Imagine His Glorious Kingdom, and see yourself kneeling before the feet of Jesus. Just keep your mind there. You may observe that thoughts of your problems will try and fill your mind, but you are in control. Put those thoughts aside and give this time to God.

It’s during these times of quiet meditation upon the goodness of the Lord that the Spirit really works in us. You and I don’t know all the ways in which the Spirit heals and prepares us internally, but we can trust that if we will be dutiful to give God some time, He will help us in ways we can’t possibly define. Remember always that you are a spiritual being, having an earthly experience. Your flesh profits little, but your spirit is where the good stuff is. You must make time in your life to get spiritually recharged through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. You’ll come away with answers to problems, renewed strength and vigor, and greater confidence in God.
