Delight in God

Dear Heavenly Father,

You tell us in Psalm 37:4(ESV), “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” There is none like You, Heavenly Father. You are in a class all by Yourself, and to delight in You is to recognize that You are awesome and amazing. You are full of grace and mercy, and You alone deserve all glory, praise, and honor. How thankful we are to be called Your children, and we get to bask in Your sweet presence every day, because Your Spirit is in us, helping us to do what pleases You.

Lamentations 3:23 tells us that Your mercies are new every morning. You will never leave or forsake us, and You guide us to victory after victory. We delight in You because Your faithfulness endures forever. We can claim Your promises for our lives and have confidence that You will always provide and care for us. You give us what we need to be more like Christ and to walk in the purpose for which You have called us.

Please forgive us, Dear Father. We don’t spend enough time thanking and praising You. We’re all so busy trying to be perfect in the flesh, trying to dot every “i” and cross every “t”. Many of us do this because we think the outside is more important than the inside. We lose sight of the reality that our flesh and blood bodies are earthly vessels that are only temporary. The times are urgent, and we should be focusing on our relationship with You, and not on things that are unimportant to our spiritual growth in Christ. What matters most to You is that we have Your Word in our hearts and minds, and we must be so very careful to be diligent about this.

There are many false teachers in the world, and instead of teaching Your people to keep their eyes stayed upon You, they are leading them astray. You warn us about them in 2Peter 2:14, 18-19(NLT). Your Word says, “14 They commit adultery with their eyes, and their desire for sin is never satisfied. They lure unstable people into sin, and they are well trained in greed. They live under God’s curse. 18 They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception. They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.

Father, please help us to steer clear of those who claim to represent Christ but are far from it. Please open our eyes and help us discern the difference between the truth and a lie. Some of us are placing all our faith and trust in a flesh and blood individual. We believe everything they tell us and will not go to Your Word and study it for ourselves. We depend on these people too much and some of us idolize them. This is a sin, and we must repent. Instead of leaning on another person, You command us in Your Word to lean on You. You are our Source and Sufficiency, and only You can direct our paths.

We have so many other things that we prioritize over You, Father, and we need to repent and get our houses in order. Forgive us for allowing the things of this world to turn our heads away from You. You deserve our absolute best and even that is not enough to give You all the praise and worship You deserve.

The psalmist said in Psalm 145:1-3(NLT), “I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.”  Words cannot express Your magnificence, brilliance, and perfection. Thank You for choosing us, and for being a God that cannot fail. You love us unconditionally and without limitations.

Father, how we delight in You, for You alone are good! We don’t deserve what You sent Christ to do for us on the cross, and we are so thankful that You sent him to deliver us from sin, death, and darkness. Please help us to do as Galatians 5:1 instructs and never allow anyone or anything to put us back into what You have delivered us from. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
