If You Thought You Didn’t Need God, Think Again

Hosea 13:4-6(The Message)
“I’m still your God, the God who saved you out of Egypt. I’m the only real God you’ve ever known. I’m the one and only God who delivers. I took care of you during the wilderness hard times, those years when you had nothing. I took care of you, took care of all your needs, gave you everything you needed. You were spoiled. You thought you didn’t need me. You forgot me.”

As a college graduate with a secure career, stable income, and all the material trappings of success, it’s natural to expect that finding and keeping the man you desire, along with the prospect of becoming a Mrs., would fall into place effortlessly. But what if year after year passes without the man you love popping the question or even mentioning a future together? It’s bewildering, to say the least, because our plans are never truly secure without God’s intervention.

Proverbs 19:21 (The Message) wisely reminds us, “We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but GOD’s purpose prevails.” Indeed, despite our meticulous planning and strategizing, it is ultimately God’s purpose that prevails in our lives. Our fulfillment and true success are intricately tied to our relationship with Him. Matthew 6:33 (NLT) reinforces this truth, commanding us to “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” This verse serves as both a commandment and a promise from God. As His children, we are citizens of His kingdom, and our lives should reflect the values and principles of His reign. Regardless of our educational achievements or worldly success, only God can truly guide our paths. Therefore, seeking Him in all aspects of our lives is paramount.

Many women compromise their faith and values when they become involved with men who do not share their relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Depending on how desperate they are for companionship, they may prioritize earthly relationships over their spiritual well-being. They might think they don’t need God in this area of their lives, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Unfortunately, a significant number of single, born-again women find themselves without a husband or even a potential partner. Some prioritize their careers and success over marriage, which is acceptable, but when God becomes a distant priority, it’s a cause for concern. We cannot afford to relegate God to a secondary position in our lives. This is a very dangerous thing to do.

Many women mistakenly believe they can navigate life on their own terms without God’s guidance, especially when it comes to relationships and marriage. However, this is an impossible task and a delusion. We all need God’s help, particularly in matters of the heart.

Taking care of yourself and desiring a godly partnership isn’t about ticking off boxes on a checklist. It’s about your character and integrity—are you someone whom God can trust with His blessings? The answer to this question is the kind of self-assessment we should include in our spiritual journey forward in Christ. So, prioritize your relationship with God above all else. He knows what’s best for you and hasn’t forgotten about you. Don’t forget about Him, because the success of your journey on earth depends on how you honor and reverence God for the rest of your life.■
