The Impact of Your Actions-You Harvest What You Plant

Galatians 6:7-8(NLT)
“7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.”

God’s order and righteousness are not difficult to understand. He informs us in Galatians 6:7-8 that we should not allow ourselves to be deceived about His justice. He will never allow His majesty and sovereignty to be ridiculed or His Word to be set aside with scorn. He is Alpha and Omega, the Great I Am! And what He says goes. We will always harvest what we plant; we can count on this. We will reap what we sow, and there can be no doubt about this truth.

The life of love that Jesus Christ demonstrated when he was in the earth is our example. God commands us to follow it. Through the example of Christ, our Heavenly Father teaches us to plant seeds of His love. Hosea 10:12(NLT) says, “‘I said, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’” God wants us to have relationships that are nurtured in His goodness and righteousness, because these are the relationships that will endure the storms of life. These are the seeds you and I must make it our priority to plant, and in order to plant them, they must be anchored in our hearts.

Our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and behaviors are seeds. The wisdom of God’s Word tells us to be exceedingly careful how and where we plant them. We can plant seeds of righteousness that please the Father and bless our lives with the kind of harvest we desire, or we can plant seeds of corruption. These are ones of insecurity, jealousy, doubt, resentment, bitterness, sexual dysfunction, selfishness, stinginess, obsession, idolatry, and many others that are rooted in darkness. All the seeds we plant come from what is in our hearts. So, we need to be conscious about the things we’re harboring, because planting the wrong kind of seeds will continually set us back in life.

When it comes to the harvest of a good and fulfilling life, we don’t have any excuses for not producing one. God has empowered us to sow good seeds so that we can harvest a rich and satisfying existence. This is exactly why our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, came to the earth and sacrificed his life for us. He teaches us in John 10:10-11 (NKJV) “10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” Jesus Christ came to make a more than abundant life available to every living person. It is our responsibility and privilege to get on board with God’s plan for our lives, so that we can continually plant or sow good seeds on good ground and receive a bountiful harvest.

The encouragement of Galatians 6:9(NLT) will keep us fueled with the joy and inspiration of Christ. This verse says, “9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Don’t allow the enemy to continue to steal from you by your own refusal to give, share, and sow according to God’s standard. Plant seeds of good works! Understand that your actions can paint a portrait of abundance or they can draw you into lack, loneliness, destruction and despair. It’s up to us! We choose what and how we sow based on our thoughts, words, and actions. God has empowered us through Jesus Christ to always make the right choice and sow good seeds every day of our lives. When we do this, we can be wholeheartedly assured that we will reap a harvest that is pleasing to Him and to us as well.■
