Handsome, Talented, and Brave

1 Samuel 16:18 (NLT)
“One of the servants said to Saul, “One of Jesse’s sons from Bethlehem is a talented harp player. Not only that—he is a brave warrior, a man of war, and has good judgment. He is also a fine-looking young man, and the LORD is with him.”

Thousands of years ago, a handsome, talented, and brave man with good judgment was one that possessed reputable qualities, and if the Lord was with him, he was sought after and highly esteemed. It’s amazing to think that these qualities, thousands of years later, are still the cream of the crop. This demonstrates the timeless quality of God’s Word and the relevance it will forever hold in our lives. As women, most of have the attributes outlined in 1Samuel 16:18 on our “Must Have” lists, because we understand that these are the qualities that distinguish a man from a boy. We must remember that we didn’t come up with all this. Our Heavenly Father did.

Ephesians 2:10(NLT) tells us, For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” We are wonderfully and masterfully made, and God considers us His finest work. He specifically manufactured us in Christ and doing the good things He has planned comes standard with our packaging. Our Heavenly Father has done everything possible to make us mirror our beloved Savior. We can leave a trail of the love of Christ in everything that we do, so we should never think that handsome, talented, brave, good judgment, and God-loving are too difficult for our Heavenly Father to send our way. This is His specialty.

God wants us to walk through life with a man that respects us, and even though we may not believe it, there are plenty of good men out there. Our Heavenly Father is brilliant and perfect in every way, and He took care our desires for marriage before we even had them. This is where our faith must be. 2Corinthians 3:5(NKJV) says, Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as [being] from ourselves, but our sufficiency [is] from God.” Philippians 4:19(NLT) also tells us that He “will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” On our own, you and I are not capable of finding a man that will be everything to us that God has ordained he should be. Our Heavenly Father takes care of this. He supplies ALL our needs, and He doesn’t make mistakes.

We don’t have to worry that God isn’t going to send a man that will be pleasing to us. Doing so will demonstrate a lack of faith. God’s Word tells us in Philippians 4:6-7(NLT), 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Get into a mind and heart space of gratitude towards God so that you can have peace in this area of your life. Give this desire and quest totally over to Him. Then, focus on doing your part by making sure that your demonstration of gratitude towards God will exceed the blessing you’re praying to receive. ■
