He Came Looking for You

Before You Ever Reached for God, He Reached for You

Romans 5:8 (NLT) says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” If we really stop and think about that, it is enough to bring us to our knees. Before He cleaned up our lives. Before we learned scripture. Before we knew how to pray. Before we got anything right, God loved us. The Creator of the universe was not waiting for us to become worthy of Him. He took the first step. He sought us out. He made a way for us to have a relationship with Him through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Chosen in Spite of Our Failures

One of the most amazing things about God’s love is that He knew everything about us and chose us anyway. He saw every weakness, every failure, every wrong turn, and still called us His own. Ephesians 2:7 (NLT) says, “So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.” Think about that for a moment. People with real weaknesses and real struggles can reflect the goodness of God’s grace. Not because we are so impressive, but because His mercy is. There is a confidence that comes from knowing you have been chosen by the One who created you.

Grace That Meets Us Where We Are

Sometimes life has a way of reminding us of our limitations. We face disappointments, struggles, losses, and seasons that leave us feeling weak. Yet those are often the very places where God reveals His strength the most. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT), “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” God’s grace is not reserved for our strongest moments. It meets us in our weakest ones. His power is not diminished by our struggles. In many ways, that is where it shines brightest.

Remember Who You Belong To

When the challenges of life come, it helps to remember whose you are. We belong to a God who pursued us when we were far from Him. We belong to a God who loved us before we ever loved Him. We belong to a God who has not changed His mind about us. Hebrews 13:5 (NLT) reminds us, “For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’” The same God who sought you out is still holding on to you today. He is still leading, still providing, still extending grace, and still working His purpose in your life.

The truth is, none of us would be here if God had not made the first move. Before we ever thought about pursuing Him, He was pursuing us. Before we understood His grace, He was extending it. Before we knew how much we needed Him, He had already made a way for us through Jesus Christ. That should do something to our hearts. It should remind us that our value does not come from having everything together. It comes from belonging to the One who chose us. When life becomes difficult, when we make mistakes, or when we find ourselves in a season of weakness, we can remember that the same grace that drew us to Him is the grace that continues to sustain us. ■
