Understanding God’s Purpose in Your Season of Singleness
Romans 8:29 (NLT) says, “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” Before we ever understood our purpose, God already knew the work He desired to accomplish in us. Our lives are not random, and our seasons are not wasted. God is always working according to His divine purpose, shaping our hearts, strengthening our faith, and shaping us into women whose lives point others back to Christ.
This means your season of singleness is not a season of being forgotten or overlooked. You are not waiting for your life to begin when someone chooses you. You have already been chosen by God. You are reserved for His purpose, and He is using this season to do a work in you that is far greater than simply preparing you for marriage. He is preparing you to become more like our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The same is true when it comes to marriage. God cares deeply about every area of our lives, including the relationships He allows us to enter. Nothing about our lives is outside of His knowledge or His care. From the smallest details to the greatest moments, God is working according to His purpose and shaping our journey for His glory.
Luke 12:7 (NLT) reminds us, “And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
If marriage is part of God’s Will for your life, trust that He knows exactly how to lead you into that season. God is not confused about your future, and He has not forgotten the desires of your heart. But while you are waiting on what God may bring, He is also doing something beautiful within you. He is strengthening your faith, healing areas of your heart, and shaping you into the woman He created you to be.
So if God has marriage in His plan for you, you are not just waiting to meet your husband—you are reserved for His purpose in this season. God is preparing your heart, growing your faith, and drawing you closer to Him.
But the wait…the wait is no joke.
Let’s be honest—waiting for something your heart deeply desires is not always easy. There are moments when you look around and wonder, “Lord, when will it be my turn?” Moments when you see others walking into the season you’ve been praying for, and your heart has to fight against feeling forgotten.
But the waiting season is not a wasted season.
When God brings marriage into your life, He wants you to be able to steward that blessing in a way that honors Him. A healthy marriage requires more than finding the right person; it requires becoming the person God is shaping you to be.
Singleness does not always mean something is wrong. Sometimes it simply means God is still working, still preparing, and still moving according to His timing. Our Heavenly Father knows exactly when the season of being reserved becomes the season of marriage.
Isaiah 60:22 (NLT) says, “The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”
We do not have to rush what God is preparing. We do not have to force what He has not yet released. Our responsibility is to trust Him, allow Him to work in us, and believe that His timing is always perfect.■
