Enemy of the State

Relationships are very delicate because, to a certain degree, you’re taking on someone else’s heart. It’s an expansion of your territory and influence. The time and energy that is spent towards finding out if you’re a good fit for one another can be filled with highs and lows, so becoming truly comfortable with each other doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process.

There are many single women that are feeling as though they’re fighting a losing battle. You start dating someone that seems like he could be the one and after several months of getting to know each other, you find out that he has qualities that just won’t mesh with your own. There are also many beautiful and loving sisters that have been in a relationship with the same man for years, and no proposal. More and more, I’m hearing women say they’re ready to give up on the whole idea of matrimony. They feel exhausted from all the ups and downs.

God tells us in 1Peter 5:8(NLT), “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” One of the reasons that you and I must be alert about the devil’s tricks is because he is very subtle with them. Seldom do we see him doing overt things to distract us. No. Slowly he causes things to eat away at our faith so that we look away from God. Methodically our confidence is chipped away, to the point where our hope is diminished. Then, we’re too exhausted to keep ourselves inspired and excited about the power of God at work in our lives.

Simply put, the adversary wants you to be off guard; he wants you to not be at your very best, and he loves to see you exhausted and in a vulnerable state. This way, you will easily abdicate your power, so he can steal it. We must never give up on the life that God says we can have. We’re His children. Jesus Christ said in Luke 12:32(NKJV), “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” The world cannot offer what God offers us. Ephesians 1:3 tells us that through Jesus Christ, he has given us all spiritual blessings. Our God is rich beyond comprehension. Through His Son He has restored us to the place that Adam and Eve lost. We are a part of His family, and as such, our faith in God is a must!

Through sadness and doubt, the enemy wants to distract and take your focus off God, because the devil is an enemy of the state of joy and faith. Don’t allow this to happen. Don’t let him steal your joy and hope. 1Corinthians 15:57(NLT) says, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Victory is ours through Christ! Ask the Lord to help you walk in it. Ask Him to renew a joyful spirit in you about your hope for matrimony. Let Him teach you greater ways to prepare for marriage. And let Him direct your paths, so that nothing the enemy does alters your state of faith, hope, and joy about what God is doing in your life.
