Speak Life!

“I don’t ever want to be married again!” Someone said this to me, and I was stunned at her proclamation. She’s a woman of a certain age, but in my mind, she’s still too young to feel this way. Her husband died a few years ago, and with two married adult children that have children of their own, you’d think she’d view this time in her life as one packed with unlimited possibilities. I was curious. I knew her well enough to ask what it was about the prospect of marriage that took away her desire for a committed relationship. She said that at her age, she didn’t believe this kind of love would come her way again.

Unfortunately, there are many women that not only feel this same way, they BELIEVE this same way. After all the teaching we’ve had about faith, many followers of Christ still have not grasped the impact on their lives of their words, thoughts, and the beliefs that back them both. We cannot believe beyond what we know, and unless we change our wrong believing, we will not rise above it. In this way, we are limited by our own thoughts, confessions, and beliefs. We are limited by what we believe and confess is possible for our own lives.

It is very possible that this woman is allowing her mind to be fed with the wrong information. In John 8:44(NLT), Jesus Christ told those who refused to believe the good news about him, “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” In modern times, the devil has many ways in which he broadcasts lies and negativity. We must be exceedingly careful, because our ears hear this wrong information from various sources, and sometimes we buy into it and let this stuff seep into our hearts.

Because we hear the wrong information, we then convince ourselves we don’t measure up. We tell ourselves we’re too fat or too skinny to attain the dream God has for our lives. Messages like “I’m not good enough… or “I’m too old…” are a byproduct of believing the wrong information as well. Negativity and ignorance about God’s Word are blindfolds; they are tools of darkness. 2Corinthians 4:4(NLT) says, “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”

We are blinded by our refusal to trust and believe the goodness of God. We are unable to see the glorious truth of the good news of Jesus Christ. This is not an average, run-of-the-mill, boring truth. It is glorious! It is a truth to get excited about. When we refuse to see it in all its glory, not only do we stifle ourselves, we stifle the work that the Holy Spirit wants to do in us. This will keep us living beneath our potential and our privilege.

When speaking about whether a rich person can enter the Kingdom of God, Jesus Christ said in Mark 10:27(NLT), “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.” Heavenly Father has given us the responsibility to line up our thoughts, beliefs, and confessions with His Word. In Proverbs 18:21, He tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue; the words we speak are either poison or fruit, and we make the choice.  So, you and I can either speak life or speak death over our lives. If the words we speak are not the truth according to God, they are poison and will have a negative impact on us. Let’s make a different choice. Let’s choose to think and speak life, so that we continually open the doors of possibilities to whatever blessings God will bring into our lives.■
