You Are Mine

Meeting someone you feel compatible with has become increasingly challenging for many people. It appears that individuals, both believers and non-believers alike, are postponing marriage. Some assert that prolonged wait intensifies the desire for marriage, while others abandon the idea of marriage altogether, embracing a “try it and see” attitude. They opt to cohabit with their partners before committing to marriage, hoping to avoid potential pitfalls if things don’t work out. While this approach has gained traction, it’s crucial for believers to recognize that it does not align with God’s best.

As women seeking fulfilling marriages, it’s crucial to wait on God’s guidance in all things. He established the union of significant relationships to be a lasting one and hopping in and out of them with different partners is not His Will. Adopting this practice can trap us in cycles of disappointment and short-lived relationships that never fully get off the ground. And if we’re the one breaking someone’s heart, we have to know we’re creating a cycle where this heartbreak comes back to us.

Galatians 6:7-8 (The Message) states: “7-8 Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.”

This passage reveals a profound truth that many of us overlook. No one escapes the consequences of their actions in life. While it may appear that some do, that’s not the case because God’s Word is true. The principle of reaping and sowing is an immutable law; it can’t be broken. Before departing this earth, each individual will be held accountable for every wrongdoing they have committed. The price for every evil deed will be paid before they vacate the premises, even if it means paying with their own lives.

Taking matters into our own hands, causing heartbreak and then causing it to cycle back, is a terrible business. If we’re not incredibly wise in God’s truth and disciplined according to the example of Christ, we are prone to finding ourselves in distressing predicaments. This consumes precious time that none of us can afford to waste. Relationships should not be left to a gamble. Instead, we must do as God tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6 and trust Him with all our hearts, lean on Him alone, and acknowledge Him in all our ways.

Isaiah 43:1(NLT) reminds us of God’s comforting presence: “But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.”” Every aspect of our beings belongs to God. Just as He reassured His people in the Old Testament, He extends the same assurance to us: “You are mine.” This passage serves as a reminder that God envelops us with His care and has a meticulously crafted plan for our lives. Given His omnipotence and infinite wisdom, God leaves nothing to chance, and we can find profound comfort in this unwavering truth.

While some may argue that a perfect partner does not exist, there is undoubtedly a partner perfectly aligned with the plan that God has ordained for our lives. Just as finding the perfect pair of pants or shoes brings us joy, our Heavenly Father can orchestrate an infinitely more fitting match. He knows the individual who will feel like a perfect match. So, although the waiting process may be challenging at times, placing our trust in God ensures that the blessing will always be worth the wait. ■
