KNOWING JESUS CHRIST

To know Him. To follow Him. To become more like Him.

Knowing Jesus Christ is at the very heart of our faith. We can know Scripture, attend church, pray, serve, and spend years around the things of God, yet still need to know Jesus more deeply. He is more than the One who saved us. He is our Lord, our Teacher, our Shepherd, our King, and the One through whom we come to know the Father.

Here, we want to slow down and look carefully at who Jesus is—His life, His words, His character, His sacrifice, His resurrection, and His promised return. We aren’t studying Him simply to gather more information. We want to know Him, follow Him, obey Him, and become more like Him. Because the more we truly know Jesus, the more He changes the way we understand God, ourselves, and the life He has called us to live.

Jesus Christ stepped into human history and changed it forever. From His humble birth in Bethlehem to His ministry throughout Galilee and Judea, everything about His life revealed who He is and why He came. He welcomed those others rejected, confronted religious hypocrisy, healed the sick, delivered the oppressed, forgave sins, taught with authority, and called people to leave everything behind and follow Him.

But the story doesn’t end at the Cross. Jesus willingly gave His life for our sins, was buried, and on the third day, He rose again. His resurrection changed everything. As we walk through His earthly life, we aren’t simply studying events that happened more than two thousand years ago. We are learning about the Savior who is alive today—and discovering more of the One we have chosen to follow.

Jesus Christ didn’t simply tell people about God. He taught them how to know the Father, how to live in a way that pleases Him, and what it means to belong to His Kingdom. He spoke about prayer, faith, forgiveness, love, obedience, and the condition of the human heart. His teachings reached beyond outward behavior to the thoughts, attitudes, and motives that shape our lives.

And His words are just as important for us today. Jesus comforts us with His promises, but He also corrects our thinking, challenges our attitudes, and calls us to live according to God’s truth. As we study what He taught, we begin to understand that following Jesus involves more than agreeing with His words. It means allowing His teachings to shape how we think, how we treat others, the decisions we make, and the way we live every day.

There is always more for us to discover about Jesus Christ. The longer we walk with Him, the more we begin to understand that knowing Him is not simply about becoming familiar with His teachings or remembering the miracles He performed. It is about growing in our understanding of His heart, His character, His authority, and what it means to live in fellowship with Him every day.

And sisters, this is where our relationship with Jesus becomes deeply personal. We begin to recognize the difference between knowing what He said and allowing His words to govern how we think, respond, love, forgive, and make decisions. We learn to trust Him when His instructions challenge our desires, and to remain close to Him even when we don’t understand what He is doing.

In Philippians 3:10 (NLT), Paul expressed the longing that should continue to grow in every believer’s heart: “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.”

That’s the invitation before us in this section: to move beyond what we already know about Jesus Christ and pursue a richer, more mature relationship with Him. Because no matter how many years we’ve walked with the Lord, we haven’t learned all there is to know about our Savior.

Jesus didn’t leave us wondering who He is. Throughout the Gospel of John, He revealed His divine identity through seven powerful “I AM” statements, each showing us something essential about His nature, His authority, and what it means to have a relationship with Him.

These weren’t simply descriptions Jesus used to help people understand His ministry. They were declarations about who He truly is. When Jesus spoke of Himself as the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, and the Good Shepherd, He was revealing what only He could provide for humanity. Each statement invites us to look beyond what we have heard about Jesus and discover what He has said about Himself.

In John 8:58 (NLT), Jesus made an extraordinary declaration: “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!” His words pointed to His eternal existence and divine identity. As we study these seven statements, we begin to see more clearly that Jesus Christ is not merely a teacher offering wisdom about life. He is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the One through whom we receive eternal life.

There is coming a day when the whole world will see Jesus Christ in a way it has never seen Him before. The same Jesus who walked the dusty roads of Galilee, healed the sick, showed compassion to the brokenhearted, and willingly gave His life for our sins will return in power and great glory. But this time, He will not come as the suffering Savior. He will come as the victorious King!

And what a glorious sight that will be! John sees heaven opened, and there is Jesus Christ, riding forth in righteousness and power. He is called Faithful and True because everything He has promised will come to pass. He is not returning to seek the approval of this world or to plead with humanity to receive Him. He is coming as the rightful King, and no earthly ruler, kingdom, or power will be able to stand against Him. Revelation 19:16 (NLT) declares His title: “King of all kings and Lord of all lords.” The One who was mocked, rejected, and crucified will be revealed in all His glory. And for those who belong to Him, what a wonderful assurance this is! Our Savior is alive, His Word is true, and His victory is certain. We are not waiting to see whether Jesus Christ will triumph. We are waiting for the day when the whole world will see the victory that already belongs to Him.

Knowing that Jesus Christ is coming again should inspire us to draw closer to Him and live each day in a way that honors Him. While we look forward to that glorious day, there is still so much for us to learn, so much room for spiritual growth, and so many opportunities to become more like our Savior. Our walk with Christ doesn’t stand still while we wait for His return. It is a daily journey of growing in faith, understanding His Word, and learning to follow Him more faithfully. And what better way to prepare for His coming than to spend our days growing closer to the One we are so eagerly waiting to see!
